Sam: Hey!! It’s such a pleasure to be interviewing you, Madison!! So, I sat down and gave your latest release Wicked a listen and I instantly loved it right from the opening line “Says bloods thicker than water, she won’t just be a martyr.” I loved the fact that it drew you in so fast. What made you realize that this line should be the opener to start the song off?
Madison: Thank you! After Una and I talked about writing a fairytale concept it seemed like the perfect opener to start off the song. Throughout Wicked there are references to other fairy tales. We started with a very familiar plot in most fairy tales starting with family.
S: I absolutely love the fairytale vibe of the song by the way, was there something that inspired that when writing the song?
M: We wanted to write another concept song like Denim. The song is about getting revenge and I had always wanted to write a song using fairytales. It seemed like the perfect topic to use that concept!
S: A personal favorite lyric from the song is “Reign is over tables turn. Best revenge is served to those so wicked.” Is there a favorite lyric from Wicked or really any of your songs for that matter, that you really love, or you have more of a connection to than others?
M: “Best Revenge is served to those so Wicked” is actually my favorite line out of all my songs!
S: I know you released tons of stuff over the course of 2020 to now, did the quarantine affect or change how you went about writing, producing, and releasing songs? Were there songs that you’d kept to the side and left unfinished that you finally got to sit down and focus on fully?
M: Quarantine definitely helped me figure out who I am as an artist. I started writing more about my experiences which was not something that I was comfortable with before.
S: I actually adore the visuals for the covers of your songs, what tends to spark the ideas for them?
M: Thank you! Recently I’ve had a color in mind for each song. I’ve been using the color as a theme for that ‘era’
S: Do you have a song of yours that you like the most or the one you feel most proud of? Why?
M: I love all my songs, but my favorite is That's What She Said. It was the first song that I felt like was me musically.
S: Were there any artists or people in your life that motivated you to start music? How and when did you realize something like “Oh I think this music thing is for me”?
M: I’ve always loved music but watching musicals when I was younger definitely inspired me. Demi Lovato and Christina Aguilera were also my two biggest inspirations when I started singing
S: I absolutely love the type of pop rock/punk music you make, is that music you always saw yourself making or is it like a mix of different sounds?
M: A little bit of both! I’ve always seen myself making pop rock/punk. I also think it has a lot to do with my influences as well.
S: I know you have some shows coming up!! What’s got you most excited to perform your songs live?
M: Yes! My last show for this year is Dec 16th at Fergusons Downtown! It’s always been a dream of mine to play my own music at shows. What makes me most excited is getting to make my music come to life live for people to hear. There’s definitely an adrenaline rush being on stage.
